SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CENTERS IN LOUISIANA 1999-2000

Louisiana saw an increase in funding for school-based health centers through Tobacco Settlement dollars. The number of centers in the state has increased by ten over the last two years, from 30 to 40. Approximately half (22) of the centers are located in rural areas; the remaining centers are located in urban areas. All of the centers receive at least half of their funds from grants or Medicaid and SCHIP payments.

In the 2000-2001 school year, there were 47 school-based health centers.
