March 18, 2002 - New Poison Control Centers Phone Number

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission today called attention to a new toll-free telephone number that gives callers access to regional poison control centers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The number, 1-800-222-1222, was launched in January by the American Association of Poison Control Centers, and parents and care givers are urged to keep the number at their telephones for quick action in a child poisoning emergency.

Poison control centers around the country receive more than a million calls a year about unintentional poisonings of children under the age of five, largely from medicines and household chemicals.
