February 15, 2002 - Senate Approves School Pesticide Program

A farm bill passed by the U.S. Senate February 13 includes an extensive program for pesticide management in schools. This is the same language that was approved by the Senate last year as an amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; that amendment died in a conference with the House, which had no similar language in its version of the ed bill.. Since there is no school pesticide provision in the House version of the farm bill, it is one of the issues to be resolved in a forthcoming House/Senate conference on that bill, as well. The full text of the school pesticide provision was printed in the Senate section of the Congressional Record for December 12 last year, as Senate amendment 2485 to the bill S. 1731.
