Almost 70 Measles Cases Reported in U.S. Since January (5/2/2008) Measles, the once-common childhood disease declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, has made a comeback. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), from January 1 through April 25 of this year, 64 confirmed cases of the highly contagious disease have been reported, the highest number since 2001.
SFA Revenues Only Cover 82 Percent of School Food Costs (4/30/2008) A survey by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service found that federal subsidies for reimbursable school lunches in most School Food Authority (SFA) operations only paid 82 percent of the full cost of the meals during the 2005-2006 school year.

Grantmakers in Health has released Critical Services for our Children: Integrating Mental and Oral Health into Primary Care, 2008. Up to half of young people do not receive adequate oral care. Of adolescents with mental health needs, up to two-thirds fail to receive diagnostic or treatment services. A link can also be found on our website, under School-based Mental health.
The Maternal and Child Health Library has released Overweight and Obesity in Children and Adolescents Knowledge Path. The guide provides resources about the prevention, identification, management and treatment of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents.
