February is National School-Based Health Care Awareness Month

    New Resources

Are you IN THE KNOW?, a new set of resources from the Guttmacher Institute, is designed to inform a broad range of audiences about reproductive health issues in a simple, compelling and fun format. The Institute works to increase public awareness about sexual and reproductive health issues and counter misinformation with sound scientific evidence. Are you IN THE KNOW? builds on those efforts by covering topics such as the frequency of premarital sex in America, the incidence of abortion in the United States and globally, and the many positive effects of comprehensive sexuality education, in an accessible way. http://www.guttmacher.org/in-the-know/

Postvention as Prevention: One community’s story, an account of teen suicide as reported by TeenScreen, examines one community’s response to a time of crisis. Knowing how to address this tragedy effectively when it occurs can often be a crucial factor in preventing contagion and providing the necessary supports for students and staff. Suicide postvention can reduce the negative effects of a tragedy on youth and other members of the community.

Comparison of Current and New Regulatory Requirements for School Lunch Programs, a comparison chart from the National Association of School Nurses (NASN), outlines the current meal standards versus the new ones under final rule “Nutrition Standards in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs”. Affecting the nearly 32 million students who eat on campus, these new standards mean major changes for schools. The main points are clear - more fruits and vegetable, less sodium and saturated fats. But how do the specifics translate for your school?
