Of the nation’s 8.9 million uninsured children, nearly two thirds are eligible but not enrolled in Medicaid and SCHIP. Maximizing Kids’ Enrollment in Medicaid and SCHIP: What Works in Reaching, Enrolling and Retaining Eligible Children
is a new report from the National Academy for State Health Policy that examines state level strategies to increase enrollment in both programs.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released the report, Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance, 2007.
According to this report, approximately 19 million new infections occur each year with almost half of them among young people 15 to 24 years of age.

To help improve the quality of support programs for teen fathers, the National Clearinghouse for Responsible Fatherhood has released the brief, Promising Teen Fatherhood Programs: Initial Evidence Lessons From Evidence-Based Research.

New from the Center

In 2008, the Delaware Division of Public Health and Delaware Department of Education joined Nemours Prevention and Health Promotion to sponsor a review of 23 years of School-Based Wellness Center operations in the state. The goal was to identify future directions and next steps in program development. To assist in this work, the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools at George Washington University was asked to examine wellness center history, interview key participants in program and policy development, and facilitate a statewide summit on the centers. The resulting report, Visioning the Future: School-Based Wellness Centers in Delaware: the Next 25 Years, includes recommendations from the summit and a background issue brief that summarizes program history and presents commentary on critical issues as discerned by 25 key informants who were interviewed for the project.

A new report is available from the Center on School Mental Health Services for the 21st Century: Lessons from the District of Columbia School Mental Health Program. In the report, the Center developed a plan for sustaining and expanding school-based mental health services in Washington, DC.  This report reviews the history of school mental health in the District of Columbia, reports on lessons learned from other states and localities, and identifies best and promising practices in organizational management, program development, professional training, and financing strategies.
