House of Representatives Approves Moratorium on Cuts in Medicaid
Reimbursements to Schools
On June 19, 2008 the House of Representatives passed a War Supplemental Funding bill that includes a moratorium on six of seven cuts in Medicaid reimbursement that had been proposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). These cuts terminated Medicaid reimbursement for certain school-based administrative and transportation activities provided to Medicaid-insured students. The new rules were originally schedule to take affect in February 2008, but earlier legislative action had postponed the action until June 30. Under the new House provisions, the moratorium is extended to April 2009. The Senate is expected to vote on the bill this week.
