U.S. Department of Education – Safe Schools/Healthy Students Program Grant

The purpose of the Safe Schools/Healthy Students program is to support implementation and enhancement of integrated comprehensive community-wide plans that create safe and drug-free schools and promote healthy childhood development. This program will support projects of local educational agencies (LEAs) proposing to implement an integrated, comprehensive community-wide plan designed to create safe, respectful and drug-free school environments and promote prosocial skills and healthy development. Plans must focus on activities, curricula, programs and services in a way that addresses the community’s needs relating to violence prevention, drug prevention, student behavioral, social and emotional support, mental health and early childhood social and emotional learning.

An estimated 28 awards will be granted. Up to $750,000 will be awarded for an LEA with fewer than 5,000 students; up to $1,500,000 for an LEA with at least 5,000 students but fewer than 35,000 students; and up to $2,250,000 for an LEA with at least 35,000 students. Eligible applicants are LEAs, including charter schools that are considered LEAs under State law, and consortia of LEAs.
