U.S. Department of Education -- Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools

The U.S. Department of Education is accepting applications for its Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) grant program to support improvements to school emergency management plans, including training, procedures, communication among stakeholders, and coordination among resources.

Award amounts are approximately $100,000 for small districts (1-20 school facilities); $250,000 for medium-sized districts (21-75 school facilities); and $500,000 for large districts (76 or more school facilities). Eligible applicants include local educational agencies (LEAs) without a current REMS, including charter schools considered LEAs under state law.

Deadline: February 19, 2008
