Hawthorne Cedar Knolls is a special act public school with a mission to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of a very special student population. Many of our students have had academic and/or emotional difficulties in the traditional public school setting. Most of our students are from the New York City area. The lack of family support even makes it harder for our student to cope with every day life. Our High School provides a safe and nurturing alternative for these students. The children work extremely hard to overcome their personal difficulties and many have been very successful both academically and socially.
Our volleyball and basketball teams are an example of this success; students now attend classes, participate in daily physical activities during intramural and their physical education classes. The players are dedicated and committed to excelling and have proven their commitment throughout this past school year. The Hawthorne Hornets participate in New York Section 1, C League in Basketball and Volleyball at the varsity and junior varsity levels. This year due to budgetary reasons and cut back in our program, the school can’t afford to provide the teams with sneakers and other need equipments for our sport program. Our students work very hard to reach this level. With the philosophy of “sound mind sound body”, we would like to do everything possible to continue with the success made and to let our students feel their best by giving them the appropriate equipments and gear.
We are requesting a donation of sport equipment such as sneaker or monetary donation to offset the cost of buying sneakers and other equipments for each player.
