The purpose of these awards is to: recognize the hard work, dedication, and talent of urban school educators and students; educate the public about the accomplishments and potential of urban schools; provide a concrete benchmark of excellence that motivates reform efforts; and deepen the knowledge base of best practices for promoting urban school transformation.
Awards of $1,000 will be made to ten schools. Eligibility requirements include schools that have non-selective admissions, low-income student population and high graduation rates, and are located in a city with a population of at least 50,000 people.
