Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration

The Centers for Disease Control is offering funding for demonstrations to determine whether an integrated model of primary care and public health approach in the community can improve underserved children’s risk factors for obesity. These approaches may include policy, systems, and environmental supports that encourage nutrition and physical activity for underserved children age 2-12.

A total of $5.25 million will be awarded.  Eligibility is limited to national nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) including public and private nonprofit organizations that serve education organizations, state and local education and/or health agencies, institutions of higher education, juvenile justice and correctional centers, alternative schools, shelters for homeless and runaway youth, and for Priority Area 2 (2A, 2B, 2C) only, youth at high risk for HIV, STD, and teen pregnancy.  Eligible national NGOs include those that represent constituencies (e.g., members, networks, affiliates and/or chapters within ten (10) or more states) with the greatest potential to impact national, state, and local policies and practices.
