The purpose of the Basic Center Program is to provide an alternative for runaway and homeless youth who might otherwise end up with law enforcement or in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems. The program is designed to provide youth up to age 18 with emergency shelter, food, clothing, counseling, and referrals for health care.

Awards of up to $200,000 are available. Eligible entities include: state, county, city and special district governments, public housing authorities, Native American Tribal organizations, and nonprofits that either do or do not have 501(c)(3) status and are not institutions of higher education. Faith-based and community organizations are eligible for this funding opportunity announcement.

Deadline: June 24, 2011
