- Active Schools Grant Program (Pennsylvania)
The Pennsylvania Department of Health is partnering with schools in Pennsylvania to reduce childhood obesity. Given that one-third of school-aged children in Pennsylvania are overweight or obese, this grant aims to increase physical activity and reduce risk for chronic diseases in adulthood.
Selected middle schools with grades 6, 7, or 8 will be provided with $5,000 to implement evidence-based physical activity programs that meet the federal guidelines of moderate to vigorous daily physical activity. Further, a number of statewide organizations have agreed to offer a 2:1 match to the federal funding.
