The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy has announced its 2012 National Grant competition, which supports nonprofit organizations that work to develop or expand projects in promoting the literacy skills of adult primary caregivers and their children.

Various awards are available up to the total amount of $650,000. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations that have been in existence two or more years as of the date of the application, and have maintained fiscal accountability. Applicants must operate an instructional literacy program that has been in existence for at least two years and must include one or more of the following components: literacy for adults, parent education, pre-literacy or literacy instruction for children pre-K to grade 3, and/or intergenerational literacy activities.

Deadline: July 1, 2011
